Now I'm also hearing from a friend it could be the cycling switch and the compressor is staying on all the time causing the evaporartor to freeze up, thus reducing air flow and causing moisture in the air.

All I know is that if its cooling well at highway speeds and then cuts out at idle, check the fuses. If it something else, try somewhere else for advice, I have no idea. My damper switch or whatever it's called has gone crazy a time or two by not blowing hot when I've had the heater on but its always corrected itself withing a few minutes. Good luck man.

Post your question here, these guys are pretty darn good....

or - your fan motor in the engine compartment (drivers side I believe) could have gone out. Which might explain the AC seeming to work properly at highway speed.
That is what mine was Fan Motor 02 Dodge Ram. It would be cold while driving because air is pushed onto the fan which turns it and pushes cold air through the truck. When you slowed down fan would stop spinning = no cold air.

hey guys try this web site, http://www.turbodieselregister.com/

i have saved over $3000 in repair bills from this site. Yeah you pay 40 bucks to join, but the wealth of information on this site is worth it. My 04.5 dodge had a/c problems went back and forth with the dealer twice. the stealership finally determined the compressor was bac and the evap coil was leaking. they wanted 1800 bucks to repair the a/c.

I called star and was very polite with the lady on the other end of the phone for about 30 minutes and mentioned i knew this was a problem Dodge was having with the a/c systems. she got a supervisor on the phone and they approved a one time extended warranty with 100 dollar deductible. the service writter was floorded and asked me how i did it. i told him i was a member of the TDR and learned alot before coming here again for the same problem.

there were threads that talked about the door flap being broke and the a/c condenser coil rubbing on the front mount and wearing a hole into the coil. the other money i saved was the yolk seal, diff seal and u joints took a dump and they extended the drive train warranty again for 100 bucks. they wanted about 1300 for all that.

hope this helps. ohh. you do get to surf around a bit for free and i will see if I can find the thread about the a/c and post it up here for ya.

A/C problems
My '03 2500 was doing precisely the same thing, would operate ok
in town but just as soon as I got on the interstate it would freeze up
and I'd have to alternate from cooling to fan to keep the truck cool.
I took it to West Side Dodge where the tech determined that the
evaporator was leaking. It was several months and many thousands of
miles out of warranty. They gave me a price of $1220 to repair it. While
they were repairing it I called Chrysler Customer Service and after hanging
on the phone about 30 minutes, they stated they would help me with the
cost involved provided that the truck had not been abused. The dealer also
repaired the broken doors in the system and installed a new evaporator
and by the time it was repaired, 4 hrs later, customer service called me and
said they would pay for everything except for $100 which I gladly paid.
I don't know what the total bill finally amounted to.

My advice, before you call, is to charge your cell phone up and talk
talk to them kindly but let them know you are dissatisfied and remind them
how much you paid for the truck, also make them aware of other business that you have given them, if any. These people were real nice to me,
however I got my daughter's Jeep repaired for $100 but the folks I talked
to that time were ugly, but I stuck it out and they paid.

Good luck.

My '03 Dodge 1500 did this, my bosses '03 Dodge 2500 did this, my buddies '06 Dodge 2500 4x4 did this. And I've heard from a bunch of folks that have had the exact same problem. Apparently, it's a very common problem with the Dodge truck blend doors. At least mine did it while it was still under warranty. All of my friend's trucks did it after the warranty had expired.
